Field Trips
Tuesday, April 17, 2012 and Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Our 3rd and 4th graders traveled to the Ag Expo being held at the Woodstock Fairgrounds. The purpose of the trip was to expand our children's knowledge of the agricultural world. The students had a great time!
Mrs. Akers' student's heffer (female cow) made a special, unannounced visit to the Ag Expo. Her name is Gucci and she will be at the fair this summer with her owner!
Chick station. Students were able to use their prior knowledge of chicks from Science class to learn even more about chicks. They discussed: life cycles, diet, habitat, and uses.
Soybean station. Students learned how soybeans are used in our daily lives, from fuel to chocolate mix!

Fouth grade will be embarking on a field tip to James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County in Grayslake on April 3, 2012. The students will view a musical journey, "Ellis Island...Gateway to a Dream", produced by American Family Theater. This musical play follows a group of immigrants who shared many experiences with thousands who came to America in the early 1900's. Topics of Ellis Island and immigration are covered in the fourth grade social studies curriculum, and this fieldtrip will help reinforce material covered while making learning fun!

Mrs. Bivin's class had several field trips this year. These trips allow us to experience community life in an educational manner. On September 14, we went to Stade’s Farm Market to see how produce is grown. We tasted fresh tomatoes and blackberries. We picked corn and dug potatoes. We petted the pony, goats, and rabbits. We learned about a healthy lifestyle with lots of fresh air and exercise. In December, we traveled to Gurnee Mills to experience the holiday season. We visited with Santa and practiced our money skills by purchasing lunch at the food court. On February 8, we went to Wilmot Mountain. Group members learned the basics of skiing and snowboarding. On March 7, 2012, we will journey to the Marriott Lincolnshire to view the play Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. During this cultural experience, we will practice good manners.
